Detailson the historic ceremony on the signing of the Turkey-Armenia protocols are becoming clear. There are several possibilities about the venue ofthe signing ceremony. Zurich Universityor the ZurihMunicipality are seen among the possible alternatives.

According to the speculation, theceremony will take place with the participation of some international personalities at 6.00 p.m. Turkish time.Foreign ministersfrom Turkey, Armenia and Switzerland will participate in the ceremony. Besides, representatives fromRussia, the United States, France and the European Union as well as students and academics are expected to be presentare expected to attend.

Contacted by Hurriyet Daily News, Swiss officials said the ball was in the Swiss court, adding the press statement to be released “very soon” will clarify the venue of the signing ceremony and the participants. No statement was made on Wednesday when the Daily News went to print. Turkish diplomats said earlier, no matter whether the statement is released or not, the signing ceremony will take place.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdo“an said the two processes,a resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the rapproachment between Turkey and Armenia, remain linked, and that a positive outcome at this week’s talks, to be held in Moldova, would help overall.

The parliaments of Turkey and Armenia need to ratify the protocol for it to take force, something Mr. Erdogan said he couldn’t guarantee, as parliamentarians in Ankara would have a free vote in a secret ballot, according to the Journal.

The prime minister also said the only obstacle to signing the deal Saturday would come if Armenia seeks to alter the text.

“This is perhaphs the most important point, that Armenia should not allow its policies to be taken hostage by the Armenian diaspora,” Erdogan was quoted as saying. Much of Armenia’s large diaspora opposes the protocol.
