SARKOZY PRAISES ARMENIA OPENING

Paying a visit to France, President Abdullah Gul met with French President Nicholas Sarkozy. Two presidents discussed bilateral relations and regional issues.

According to Elysee Palace sources, both President Abdullah Gul and French President Nicholas Sarkozy stated that French opposition to Turkey’s EU membership should not affect relations as a whole. Both leaders stated that the difference in the opinion about the issue of Turkey’s EU membership should not prevent development of cooperation between Turkey and France.

It is reported that two leaders expressed the importance of cooperation between two countries in the fields of economy and energy. President Abdullah Gul stated that Turkey would welcome participation of France to Nabucco pipeline project. Gul also stated that Nabucco is a collective project and all membercountries should confirm attendance of France to the consortium to be possible.

It is reported that French President Nicholas Sarkozy congratulated President Abdullah Gul on his brave steps in the process of normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia. Abdullah Gul asked French leaderto support the process and the protocols that will be signed in Zurich.
