U. S. Foreign Ministry Spokesman Philip Crowley stated that United States Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not focus on 1915, but focuses on 2009. “And because of that, today Foreign Minister Hillary Clinton will be in Zurich,” said he.

Holding a press conference in Foreign Ministry, Crowley replied the question, “President Barack Obama mentioned 1915 events as ’genocide’ during his election campaign but he did not use the term during his presidency. What is the reason for the change?”

Stating that April 24 speech of President Obama reflects the attitude of U.S. administration, Crowley said, “The Foreign Ministry of United States focuses on 2009, and because of that Foreign Minister Hillary Clinton will be in Zurich today with Russian and French Foreign Ministers and Javier Solana. Because they are all aware the importance of the steps that Turkey and Armenia made after a long while.”

Stating that there are things to do after signing protocols, Crowley said that protocols will be discussed in the parliaments of both countries.

Crowley stated that United States and European Union supports the efforts towards normalization of bilateral relations between Turkey and Armenia. “Because of that U. S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will be present in the signing ceremony,” said he.

To a question about the meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents, Crowley said that United States is co-chair of OSCE Minsk Group and that US follows a diplomacy towards resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh problem.
