SARKSYAN WILL COME TO THE MATCH (WON'T HE?)

The visits made by Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan to both France and the US were quite eventful. The Armenian diaspora has labeled Sarksyan a “traitor” for initialing two separate protocols with Turkey.

The protocols approved between Turkey and Armenia have managed to create conflict between Yerevan and the Armenian diaspora, as well as basically splitting the diaspora living in America into two. So will Sarksyan, in the face of all this pressure, actually come from Armenia to Bursa to watch the match with President Gul? One top-level diplomat noted recently, „It is quite likely he will come.“ He continued, „Because if Sarksyan were to make a concession to the diaspora and the Tasnaks by not coming to Bursa, then his own political credibility would be extremely damaged.” Which would in turn make it very difficult for Turkey to proceed with Yerevan on the protocol calendar of events, as well as make it tough for the Karabakh talks and the Minsk group. So it appears most likely that Sarksyan will in fact come.
