Day.Az interview with Azerbaijan's independent political expert Zardusht Alizade.

Q: Do you think Turkish parliament will ratify Armenia-Turkey protocols?

A: I believe that Turkey and Armenia will tryt prolong discussion of protocols as long as possible, citing various reasons, and will wait for what Azerbaijan and Armenia will agree upon while encouraging them to ensure that they have made mutual concessions. The Turkish parliament will delay the ratification so that not to take responsibility.

Q: May Turkey-Armenia border open by end of the year?

A: I believe that this will depend on at what stage the Karabakh issue will be. If the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is resolved by that time, the border between Turkey and Armenia will be opened, and if not, Turkey will not open the border.

Q: What steps Azerbaijan should take in connection with the signing of the Armenian-Turkish protocols? What impact the signing of the Armenian-Turkish protocols will have on resolution of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict?

A: I think that Azerbaijan should not take any steps. Azerbaijan should pursue its public policy so that issues associated with it will not dependent on other states and will be decided by other countries. We need to solve our problems independently from any processes.

Q: Media reported that the visit of President Serzh Sargsyan to Moscow is linked with the discussion of Russia’s military base which is located on the territory of Armenia …

A: I think that it is not true, because now Russia has neither desire nor ability to deal with the expansion or discussion of its military base in Armenia. Previously, when they said that Turkey was an enemy who could attack on Armenia, it was possible to discuss this topic. And now, Turkey and Russia are friends, allies and partners. The relations with Armenia is also improving, so there is no need to raise or discuss this issue.
