Next week, the Armenian-Turkish protocols will be sent to the Turkish parliament for consideration, CNN Turk quoted Turkish government spokesman Cemil Cicek as saying.

Protocol will be sent to the Turkish Grand National Assembly next week, but the date has not yet been fixed yet, and only the parliament will decide whether to vote on the protocol, Cicek said.

Turkish and Armenian Foreign Ministers Ahmet Davutoglu and Edward Nalbandyan signed Turkey-Armenia protocols in Zurich on Oct. 10.

Armenian-Turkish ties have been severed since 1993 due to Armenia’s claims to recognize so-called “Armenian genocide” and Armenia’s occupation of Azerbaijani lands.

Serious progress is not expected to take place without settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh problem, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Oct. 11.

Cicek said signing of the protocols with Armenia is part of Turkey’s policy to establish stability and peace in the Caucasus.

Concerning the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Cicek said that Armenia should withdraw from the occupied Azerbaijani territories. “Turkey hopes that steps to improve relations with Armenia will positively impact the Karabakh conflict solution,” said Cicek.

Another major problem, which Turkey hopes to resolve, is unfair accusations against Turkey of committing “genocide” against Armenians, said Cicek.

Turkey is ready to face its history, and therefore, according to the protocols, a special commission composed of historians will be established.

“We are ready to prove the truth and lies about the events of 1915, and let the scientists work on this,” said Cicek.

According to the protocols, Armenia will also recognize the borders of Turkey, Cicek said.

TURKEY WILL ACT IN ACCORDANCE WITH AZERBAIJAN’S INTERESTS

As before, Turkey will continue building relations with Azerbaijan based on the principles of brotherhood, Cemil Cicek, briefed the media.

“We have fraternal relations with Azerbaijan, and nothing is more important for Turkey than the friendship with Azerbaijan,” said Cicek.

According to Cicek, the relations between the two countries are developing dynamically, every week officials of Azerbaijan and Turkey make reciprocal visits.

Whatever steps Turkey has taken, it will always act in accordance with the interests of Azerbaijan, said Cicek.

Armenian-Turkish protocol on the normalization of relations, signed in Zurich on Saturday, also aims to solve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and stop the Armenian occupation of Azerbaijani territories,'s aid Cicek.

Turkish and Armenian Foreign Ministers, Ahmet Davutoglu and Edward Nalbandian signed the protocol Ankara-Yerevan in Zurich on Oct. 10.

Armenian-Turkish ties have been severed since 1993 due to Armenia’s claims to recognize so-called “Armenian genocide” and Armenia’s occupation of Azerbaijani lands.

For coming into force, the protocol must be ratified by the parliaments of Turkey and Armenia.

Protocol will be sent to the Turkish Grand National Assembly next week, said Cicek.

Serious progress is not expected to take place without settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh problem, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated a day after the signing of the protocols.
