GUNAY EVINCH REJECTS THE OFFER OF ARMENIAN DIASPORA

Turkish diaspora in United States refused the offer of Armenian diaspora organizations in United States who supports signing of the protocols, when they called Turkish diaspora to help against Armenians in America who protest against the protocols. Chairman of Assembly of Turkish American Associations (ATAA) Gunay Evinch refused the offer stating that it is ’interior problem’ of Armenian diaspora.

Armenian diaspora organizations that back the process of normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia asked Turkish diaspora organizations for help against Armenian diaspora organizations that oppose theprotocols that are signed by Turkey and Armenia. Representatives of Turkish diaspora in U.S. politely refused the offer pointing that it isan interior problem of Armenian diaspora.

Chairman of Assembly of Turkish American Associations (ATAA), Gunay Evinch wrote in a written statement that Armenian organizations backing the protocols had contacted Turkish diaspora asking for help against other Armenian organizations who oppose normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia. Evinch wrote that Armenian organizations asked for participation of ATAA to the demonstrations of Armenian organizations towards paying support tothe policies of Serzh Sarksyan. Evinch stated that the issue is about different views among Armenian diaspora organizations and that they will not interfere interior problems of Armenian diaspora.

Gunay Evinch stated that Turks in United States achieved several political success in the summer of 2009 whichhas resulted with better attitude against Turkish society in United States. Reminding that Turkish diaspora in United States struggles against anti-Turkish campaigns of Armenian diaspora in the country, Evinch said that they informed the lawmakers about 1915 events and changed their views on Armenian genocide allegations which resulted in halting a state legistation on the issue.

Evinch stated that the number of lawmakers that support Armenian allegations decreased in U.S. Congress as a result of the efforts of Turkish diaspora. He said that the number of Congressmen that are members of Turkish-U.S. friendship group has reached to 99.
