“Turkish parliament will not pass a decision to reopen the borders with Armenia unless the occupied Azerbaijani territories are released.

The Republican People's Party will do its best for it,” chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP) Deniz Baykal said at the meeting with Azerbaijani parliamentarians. CHP chairman underlined the importance of Azerbaijan-Turkey relations and said the protocols signed with Armenia do not meet Azerbaijan's expectations for the solution to the problems in the South Caucasus.

“There are more important problems to be solved first of all in the South Caucasus. The occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia is at the top of these problems. The main problem is to end this occupation, and of course the protocols on the reopening of Turkey-Armenia borders dashed Azerbaijan's hopes. It should be understood,“he said.

Deniz Baykal said Azerbaijan is an important country not only for Turkey, but also for the entire region.

“Azerbaijan is our brother. This is not platonic love, but real feeling. Turkey-Azerbaijan cooperation is the basis of stability in the South Caucasus. I tell my Azerbaijani brothers not to pay much attention to these events. Don't worry, we all are here, know our tasks and will preserve our friendship with Azerbaijan. We realize that our friendship is of great importance in the region, we will not close eyes to the damage on Azerbaijani people. I want everybody to know this,” he said.
