Turkey will not take any actions contradicting Azerbaijan’s interests, deputy chairman of the committee for foreign relations of Turkish ruling Justice and Development Party Kursat Tuzmen said at a meeting with Azerbaijani MPs.

“The actions contradicting Azerbaijani interests are akin to suicide for Turkish leadership,” Tuzmen said at a meeting between Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation and representatives of Turkish Justice and Development Party.

He said that Turkish-Azerbaijani relations are not limited to emotional and ethnic kinship. Taking it into account, Turkish authorities can not take actions contradicting Azerbaijani interests, he said.

Azerbaijani MPs participating in the meeting expressed their anxiety over the signing of Ankara-Yerevan protocols.

MPs stated that Azerbaijan does not oppose opening of Turkey-Armenian border provided de-occupation of Azerbaijani lands. Parliamentarians expressed their willing for the Turkish legislative body not to ratify Ankara-Yerevan protocols till Armenia frees occupied territories.

MPs said they believe in Turkish Prime-Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s statements that it is impossible to open the border till the Nagorno-Karabakh conflicts is solved. But they worry about external pressure which Turkish diplomacy can face while solving this issue.

Turkish and Armenian foreign ministers Ahmet Davutoglu and Edward Nalbandian signed the protocol Ankara-Yerevan in Zurich on Oct. 10.

MPs Samad Seyidov, Nizami Jafarov, Ali Huseynov, Ganira Pashayeva, Mubariz Gurbanli, Gudrat Hasanguliyev, Akram Abdullayev, Gultekin Hajibayli, Asef Hajiyev, Rovshan Rzayev and Fazail Agamali held meetings in Ankara to discuss this situation on Oct. 14.

Diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkey have been severed since 1993 due to Armenia’s claims of an alleged genocide and its occupation of Azerbaijani lands.

NO ONE CAN INTERFERE WITH AND UNDERMINE TURKEY-AZERBAIJAN RELATIONS

“No one can interfere with and undermine Azerbaijan-Turkey relations,” Member of Azerbaijani Parliament and head of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov told Turkish reporters, CNN Turk reported.

“Today we heard the words of the Speaker of Turkish Parliament that „we want this (the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations) proceed in parallel with resolution of the Karabakh problem.“ The Azerbaijani delegation is very satisfied,” the MP said.

“Relations between our countries are built and developed on the principle of „one nation — two states.“ Let no one think that it could create problems between our countries. The Azerbaijani delegation will continue to meet with officials from Turkey, and through these meetings our relationship will be raised to an even higher level,” he said.

“We are two states, which act and conduct its policy in one direction, and so I am sure that Turkey will maintain high-level policy in this respect. The meetings of our delegation will be followed by a news conference,” Seyidov said.

On Oct. 13, a group of member of Azerbaijani Milli Majlis (parliament) left for Turkey. The visit will last until the end of the week.
