FIFA BANNED AZERBAIJANI FLAGS IN TURKEY-ARMENIA GAME

Public opinion reacted to the decision of FIFA about banning flags of third countries in Turkey-Armenia game. Turkish fans who wanted to enter the stadium with Azerbaijani flags were blocked by the police. Fans who brought Azerbaijani flags protested the decision out of Bursa Ataturk Stadium.

Secretary General of FIFA Jereme Valeke send a note to Turkish Football Federation and wanted Azerbaijani flags to be banned in the stadium during Turkey-Armenia game.

On the other hand, Armenian journalists unfurled Armenian flag in press box in the stadium. Officials from Turkish Football Federation warned Armenian journalists and stated that journalists are not allowed to unfurl flags.

FIFA’S DOUBLE STANDARDS

It is reported that FIFA did not interfere when Greek fans unfurled the flags of Greek Populated Southern Cyprus in the game between Turkish and Greek national soccer teams. Fans reacted to the double standards of FIFA and despite the ban, there were a few fans who could brought Azerbaijani flags in the stadium.
