The Turkish Ministry of Culture says insulting Azerbaijani flag is inadmissible.
“Insulting the Azerbaijani flag is inadmissible. The Azerbaijani flag is the flag of Turkey. We strongly condemn those who did it. Along with all this, I would like note that the ban on bringing the Azerbaijani flag to the Turkey-Armenia football match has no relation to the Turkish Government,” Advisor to the Turkish Deputy Culture Minister Kemal Fahir Genc said in Baku on Oct. 16.
During the Turkey-Armenia football match in Bursa on Oct. 14, the Azerbaijani flag was taken away from fans. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry expressed a protest to the Turkish embassy in connection with the incident on Oct. 15.
Genc said disrespect for the flag is inexcusable.
“Whatever happens, Turkey will never want relations with Azerbaijan to deteriorate. Every step taken in Turkey has an impact on Azerbaijan. In the same way, every step in Azerbaijan has an impact on Turkey,” he said.
AZERBAIJANI MPS WANTED PUNISHMENT FOR THOSE WHO INSULTED AZERBAIJANI FLAG IN TURKEY
The Azerbaijani MPs want punishment for all those who insulted Azerbaijani flag in Turkey.
“We have informed the Turkish parliamentary commission on foreign policy about our concerns over the disrespect against the Azerbaijani flag during the Armenia-Turkey football match,” the Chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliamentary Committee on International and Inter-Parliamentary Relations and Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Samad Seyidov said at the news conference on results of the Ankara visit on Oct.16
On Oct. 14, 2009, the Azerbaijani flags were seized from fans during the Armenia-Turkey football match held in Bursa city of Turkey. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry submitted official protest note to the Turkish Embassy in Azerbaijan in connection with the incident.
Azerbaijan respects the Turkish flag and demands from Turkey respect towards the Azerbaijani flag, Seyidov added.
“There are forces who are willing to harm the Azerbaijan-Turkey relations. Disrespect against our flag serves to insidious plans of these forces,” Seyidov added.
