Holding a press conference with Armenian journalists, State Minister Egemen Bagis corrected the question of an Armenian journalist about so called Armenian genocide before replyingthe question. Bagis replied the question as, “There is no certain evidence, issue should be discussed by historians, but not by politicians.”
When an Armenian correspondent asked State Minister Egemen Bagis if recognition of so called Armenian genocide is a precondition for Turkey’s EU membership, Bagis said that histories of European countries are full with blood and atrocity.
When the journalist established similarity between holocaust in Germany and 1915 events in Ottoman Empire, Bagis said, “6 million Jews died in Germany. But no German died. On the other hand, 2 million Muslims died in Ottoman Empire.” Underscoring the importance of protocols that Turkey and Armenia signed to normalize their bilateral relations, Bagis defined the policies of Armenian Prezident Serzh Sarksyan as “brave.”
Stating that ratification of protocols will be dependent to the progress in the process of resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Bagis said, “It is not easy for protocols to be ratified in the Parliament unless Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is resolved.”
