“If it goes on like this, the Armenian authorities will turn Armenia into a Turkish vilayet,” Ara Nranyan, Parliament member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun (ARFD) told reporters. He pointed out that those praising the Armenian-Turkish protocols are at least naОve or do not keep track of Turkish media reports. Nranyan stressed that even the Armenian authorities are concerned, and the Armenian President's message to the Armenian people is evidence thereof.
Responding to Gagik Melikyan, Parliament member of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), who stated that the ARFD did not even have any idea of the long process that preceded the signing of the Armenian-Turkish protocols and that the party is in decline, Nranyan said: “It is not Dshkaktsutyun that is in decline, but it is Armenia that will fall into decline soon.”
According to him, the only way of preventing unfavorable developments is, without waiting for Turkey, putting the issue of ratifying the Armenian-Turkish protocols on the Parliament's agenda and refusing to ratify them. In his turn, Melikyan pointed out that the RPA is “well aware that Turkey is trying to delay the ratification process. In this case, however, the Armenian side will set its requirements as well.”
“Armenia was on equal footing with Turkey before, whereas we are only making concessions,” Nranyan said.
