“Turkish-Azerbaijan relations are above all. The doctrine of „two states, one nation“ came to agenda after Azerbaijan reached its independence was developed successfully as it was under Ozal and Demirel leadership. I believe this principle of our relations will never change. The political developments in the world arena have an impact on the Turkey's relations toward some of its neighbors, but it will never impact on the basic principles of the Turkish-Azerbaijani relations.

I am underlining that it is impossible to cut our brotherhood ties”, said Chairman of the Turkish-NATO parliamentary group, member of the Turkish parliament from Justice and Development Party Vahit Erdem. He said Azerbaijan was informed about all actions taken toward the normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations. “The protocols are not contradictory to the Azerbaijan's interests. The Turkish Prime Minister guaranteed that. This is just a process and we need to watch its development. I understand the sensibility of Azerbaijan and respect it. Turkey is also sensible in the issue of defending the Azerbaijani interests. There is nothing except the protocol and it was not ratified at the parliament yet. The most important condition is the Armenian withdrawal from the occupied Azerbaijani lands. We will closely follow this process as the members of the parliament. We should avoid all actions hurt the interests of the two brother peoples. I just returned from the NATO meeting in Ukraine. I told the European parliamentarians there that Turkey signed the protocols, but the main issue is the Armenian withdrawal from the occupied Azerbaijani lands and you need to make serious pressure on Azerbaijan. Otherwise it will be impossible to ratify the protocols. We will not allow turning of Turkish-Armenian normalization against Azerbaijan”.
