State Minister Egemen Bagis commented on the tension between Turkey and Azerbaijan.
State Minister Egemen Bagis commented on the tension between Turkey and Azerbaijan and stated that Turkey never left Azerbaijan alone. Egemen Bagis said, “We never striked an attitude against Azerbaijan because they did not recognize Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Although sometimes they unintentionally left us alone in Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE), we never left them alone. We informed Azerbaijan in every level during the process of normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia. This process is a great opportunity for ending the occupation in Karabakh. And current attitude of Azerbaijan is not appropriate with our neighbourly and fraternal relations. More than that, it is not possible to explain the actions like lowering Turkish flags in Baku, closing down the mosques and threating Turkey with statements about natural gas prices just like Russia does against Georgia and Ukrain. We are close relatives with Azerbaijanis. Our Azerbaijani brothers need us as much as we need them. As Haydar Aliyev said, “We are one nation and two states.” I hope this process brings peace and prosperity to whole region with the contributions of OSCE Minsk Group. If we do not use this opportunity then it will be harder for another chance to emerge.”
LACINER: “TURKEY SHOULD IGNORE SUCH REACTIONS”
Director of International Strategic Research Organization (ISRO) Associate Professor Sedat Laciner stated that the attitude of Azerbaijan is not about the flag crisis between two countries. Laciner said, “They closed down Turkish mosque in Baku 6 months ago. There are some circles in Azerbaijan that uses tension for weakening the ties between Turkey and Azerbaijan. On the other hand, there is an ignorance in Turkish Republics. The relations between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are so bad. Uzbek-Kyrgyz relations are also at daggers drawn. Turkey should ignore such developments and should be aware that these states are yet immature.”
Laciner said, “Brotherhood, does not solve problems. It even worsens the situation. See Arabians and Turks. Arabians have 22 states and Turks have 6 states. And they all have disputes among each other. We should be careful in process of rapprochement with Armenia. Losing Azerbaijan and gaining Armenia is not a good trade. And if Azerbaijan loses Turkey, it will take long for Azerbaijan to gain its independenceagain, as it happened in Soviet era.”
NATIONALIST MOVEMENT PARTY: “BOTH COUNTRIES HAVE MISTAKES”
Deputy Chairman of Nationalist Movement Party, Cihan Pacaci stated that banning Azerbaijani flags during Turkey-Armenia game and disrespect against Azerbaijani flag were insulting for Azerbaijan. He said, “In return, Azerbaijanis lowered Turkish flags in Baku. Both are wrong steps. Azerbaijani and Turkish people are one nation and two states. We should not forget that such attitudes are harmful for both countries.
Turkey should have informed Azerbaijan about the protocols that are signed with Armenia. Normalizing relations with Armenia against the will of Azerbaijan is completely wrong. Turkish authorities should immediately fix this problem.“
KAZAKH PRESIDENT: “AZERBAIJAN’S CONCERNS ARE UNDERSTANDABLE”
Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev stated that the concerns of Azerbaijan over the relations between Turkey and Armenia are understandable. He said that Azerbaijan should be informed about the process of rapprochement between Turkey and Armenia.
Nazarbayev also stated that he supports the process of normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia which will establish peace in Caucasus.
