“Congress should pay more attention to the negotiations in Caucasus, than issue of the Armenian claims on the „genocide of 1915,“” Co-Chair of the Turkey Caucus in the US Congress Robert Wexler told.

Wexler intends to leave Congress in 2010 and will take the post of Head of the Center for Middle EastPeace andEconomic Cooperation.

Two pro-Armenian senators in the United States, Robert Menendez and John Ensign, introduced the so-called “Armenian Genocide Resolution” in the U. S. Senate.

Mr. Wexler believes that currently this issue is not so important on the background of the regional negotiations.

The Turkish-Armenian protocols on normalization of the Ankara -Yerevan relations signed on Oct.10 stipulates establishment of joint intergovernmental commission to investigate the facts of the Armenian “genocide.” Earlier, the Armenian government has refused Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s offers to establish a joint commission, stating that they have no doubt in the interpretation of this event.

It is strange that Armenians are trying to raise the genocide issue at Senate few days after Turkish-Armenians protocols signing, Turkish Diaspora representative Kayahan Mete told.

The Turkish government declares that the protocols on normalization of the Ankara -Yerevan relations aimed at solving conflicts in the Caucasus, especially, the Nagorno-Karabakh.

Kayahan hopes that Congress will reject the resolution on the Armenian “genocide.”

Last week, the Turkish-American faction in Congress increased in number and has reached a hundred.
