Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu stated that negotiations are being continued for establishment of a corridor between Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia which will be controlled by international forces.

Azerbaijan and Armenia are close to a deal which will end the Karabakh conflict between two Caucasus countries. Leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia met five times in last five months to reach a solution to the conflict. It is reported that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan negotiates establishment of a corridor that will connect Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia. Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said during his speech in Turkish Parliament that military officials of Azerbaijan and Armenia negotiate the width and structure of Lachin corridor.

The conflict between two post-Soviet countries started with the land claims of Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh. After both countries gained their independence in 1991 with the collapse of USSR, the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia about the status of Nagorno-Karabakh caused a war. Armenia occupied Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions, and Turkey closed its borders to Armenia as a reaction to occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia.

Leaders of two countries accelerated their efforts under the mediation of Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group. Two leaders met five times in last five months. Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that Azerbaijan and Armenia are negotiating establishment of a corridor that will connect Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia. Davutoglu said,

“After 17 years, negotiations towards resolution of the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia gained acceleration. Last month, for the first time in 17 years, a military committee went to Lachin for deciding width and structure of Lachin corridor. But of cource, it is not possible to change whole status quo by one move.”
