As Turkey and Armenia struggles to normalize bilateral relations, Armenian diaspora in United States does not spare efforts to undermine the efforts of two country towards establishment of peace in the region. Two pro-Armenian senators introduced an Armenian resolution to U.S. Senate after Turkish and Armenian Foreign Ministers signed protocols in the mediation of Switzerland towards establishment of diplomatic relations. On the other hand, it is reported that two pro-Armenian U.S. senators are known with their dark political past. There are rumours that the interest of two senators on 1915 events are nothing other than making money.
A few years ago, Senator Robert Menendez (D-New Jersey) was on the first pages of newspapers with a political scandal. American newspapers had reported that Menendez was using his political influence to make his lover LiCausi to win tenders. LiCausi, who started to work near Menendez in 1998 as a 26 year-old newly graduate, started to make thousands of dollars in a short time. Menendez never refuted the reports about a love affair with Kay LiCausi. It is reported that the high salary of the lover of Senator Menendez is being provided by lobbying organizations, including Armenian lobbying organizations.
Another pro-Armenian politician, Senator John Ensign ( R-Nev.) was on the agenda of American newspapers with a political scandal. American politican had conffessed this summer that he had an affair with a campaign staffer. The woman and her husband were both working for the politician. Holding a press conference, Nevada Republican had stated that he made the worst thing in his life and betrayed his wife. John Ensign was among the politicians who were calling Bill Clinton to resign after Monica Lewinsky scandal.
