It is reported that Armenian Parliament will wait ratification of protocols in Turkish Grand National Assembly before voting protocols that are signed by Turkish and Armenian Foreign Ministers in Zurich towards establishment of diplomatic relations and development of bilateral ties. Speaker of Armenian Parliament Nairi Petrosyan said that Armenian Parliament will wait Turkish Parliament before holding a parliamentary session for voting protocols. Protocols are introduced to Turkish Grand National Assembly last week but no date for voting is determined yet.
Speaking to Bloomberg agency, Director of the Armenian Center for National and International Studies (ACNIS), Richard Giragosian stated that Armenian people are confused about protocols due to lack of information. Giragosian said, “Majority of Armenian population is towards normalization of relations and opening of borders. But the question that remains in the minds of Armenian people is that what Turkey asks in return.” Giragosian said that there will not be any problem in the process of ratification of protocols in the parliament of Armenia. “The real test will be in Turkish Parliament,” said he.
Director of the Armenian Center for National and International Studies said that Turkish Parliament may postpone voting protocols till next February or March. Giragosian said, “Turkey tries to increase its political interests.”
Turkey and Armenia signed protocols on October 10 in Zurich under the mediation of Switzerland.
