Holding a press conference in Baku, U. S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Tina Kaidanow said, “Azerbaijan is a very important country in Caucasus. We attach high importance to our relations with Azerbaijan. Of cource we understand concerns of Azerbaijan about opening of Turkey-Armenia borders but we support opening of borders.”

“We consider that (Turkey-Armenia) process in the region will contribute peace. On the other hand we understand concerns of Azerbaijan. Not only normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia, but also normalization of Azerbaijan-Armenia relations is important. Assignment of experienced diplomat Robert Bradtke as Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group  U. S. Co-chair is an evidence of the importance that United States attaches to the process of resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” Kaidanow said.

Commenting on the issue of assignment of a U.S. ambassador to Baku, Kaidanow said, “Azerbaijan is a very important partner and an important country in the region. We are considering on candidates.”
