Secretary General of the biggest international organization after United Nations (UN), Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu called Armenia to end the occupation in Azerbaijan. Ihsanoglu said that OIC members should take political and economical measures against Armenia to urge for ending the occupation.

Speaking to Trend News Agency, Ihsanoglu called Armenia to return occupied lands back to Azerbaijan. Ihsanoglu said that he will be in Baku to attend the conference “Dialogue of Civilizations: Azerbaijan’s view.” He said, “Azerbaijan is a bridge between Asia and Europe among the members of Organization of Islamic Conference. We condemn ongoing occupation in the lands of Azerbaijan. We are in cooperation with Azerbaijanon Nagorno-Karabakh dispute.”

Stressing that the problem should be solved within the frames of international laws, Ihsanoglu said, “We support a fair and peaceful resolution. And we condemn the operations that Armenia holds in the occupied lands of Azerbaijan.” Secretary General of Organization of the Islamic Conference said that Karabakh refugees should be able to return their homeland securely and peacefully.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988, before the collapse of USSR. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992. 30 thousand people died and one million people had to leave their homeland. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group — Russia, France, and the U.S. — are currently holding the peace negotiations.
