Political Scientist Professor Doctor Dogu Ergil said that signing protocols with Armenia was a planned project. Ergil said, “Signing protocols after many years of hostility, and despite the harsh reaction of Azerbaijan shows that this policy is not aimless.” Professor said that Armenia will withdraw its military forces from occupied lands of Azerbaijan and Turkey will open its borders to Armenia.

Stressing that government’s policies against Armenia arewell planned, political scientist said, “It is certain that Turkish Prime Minister had interviewed both with Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents and learnt that Armenians will soon withdraw from the occupied lands of Azerbaijan.”

Underscoring that Nagorno-Karabakh problem is Azerbaijan’s internal problem, professor said, “Karabakh problem is a problem between Azerbaijan and Armenian citizens of Azerbaijan. We do not have anything to do about how Azerbaijan will succeed integration of its Armenian citizens. The point we are opposing is occupation in a large area by Armenians with the support of Armenian and Russian armies. This is the only thing that we are reacting on. Other than that, nobody can intervene the problems between Armenian citizens of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijani state.”

Ergil said, “As far as we know from the reports, Azerbaijani administration will give Karabakh Armenians autonomy. Now they are negotiating the structure and width of the Lachin corridor. I am very sure that Turkey would not sign protocols if Turkish government did not have strong belief about solution of the dispute between Azerbaijan and Armenia.”

Commenting on the issue of opening of borders between Turkey and Armenia, Ergil said that opening of borders will follow the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
