One of the candidates in the local elections in France in 2008, Baskin Oran’s daughter Sirma Oran Martz was urged to recognize so called Armenian genocide or to remove herself as a candidate.

A candidate in the local elections in Villeurbanne, Lyon in 2008, Sirma Oran Martz sued Socialist Mayor Jean Paul Baret stating that Mayor pressed her to recognize Armenian allegations on 1915 events in Ottoman Empire or to remove herself as a candidate.

The hearing is held in a court in Lyon and the decision will be made on the case on January 5th. Oran Martz said, “My only wish is that French courtcan judgethis discrimination. As Hrant Dink wanted to live in Turkey as a Turkish citizen and backed co-existing, i want to live in France as a French citizen in association.”

Oran Martz said, “Democrat Armenians in France should understand that Dashnak Party member Armenians do not represent all the Armenians.”

Protesting the discrimination by applying to “Haute Autorité de Lutte contre les Discriminations et pour l’Egalité” (HALDE), Martz said, “Turkish people here does not have right to live, think and gain significant positions. As they call us for integration, they are directing us to disjointedness.”

Turkish immigrant foundations RACORT and COJEP condemned the policies of Baret, stating that socialist politician commits discrimination.
