Turkish historians reacted to the statements of popular singer and Armenian ambassador to Switzerland, Charles Aznavour. The protocols that Turkey and Armenia signed in the mediation of Switzerland are again on the agenda following the statements of French-Armenian signer Charles Aznavour. Aznavour said in a TV program that he has been waiting since he was born to see Erzurum, Erzincan, Bitlis, Van and Mus within the borders of Armenia.

History Department Lecturer in Ataturk University Faculty of Literature, Professor Doctor Enver Konukcu reacted to the statements of Aznavour and said, “Armenians slightly start to show their real intention. In my opinion, Armenians will leave the process of normalization of relations immediately as it becomes serious.”

Konukcu said that diaspora Armenians are possessed with the dream of ’Great Armenia’. “Statements of Aznavour shows the approach of diaspora Armenians to the protocols,” he said.

Speaking to Italian RAI 3 television, famous Armenian singer Charles Aznavour had said, “Stalin promised lands to Armenians in 1924, in the year i was born. It has not happened yet. I have been waiting all the time, and i cannot wait another 85 years.”

Konukcu said that Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs should warn Armenia on the statements of Armenia’s ambassador to Switzerland. Konukcu said that Armenia had always been the side that violates the agreements between two countries. “If Armenia was serious in the process of normalization it would make significant step towards resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh,” he said.
