Despite the process of normalization between Turkey and Armenia, Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan said that they will not abandon efforts towards international recognition of so called Armenian genocide.

At a meeting with Armenian religious leader Patriarch Katolikos Karekin II and other high level Armenian religious leaders, Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan said that Armenian administration will continue following a policy towards normalizingthe relations of Armeniawith Turkey.

According to the report of Armenian Radio of Liberty, Armenian Patriarchate Katolikos Karekin II, who is considered as the religious leader of Armenians in the World, voiced support for Turkey-Armenia protocols. On the other hand, religious leader of Armenians of Lebanon Aram I criticized Armenian President’s policies harshly.

The religious leader of Armenians in Middle East, Aram I called Armenian administration to immediately abandon the protocols that Turkey and Armenia signed in the mediation of Switzerland towards establishment of diplomatic relations.

On the other hand, Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan said that Armenia will not abandon efforts towards international recognition of so called Armenian genocide.

Armenian religious authorities also differ in opinion about the process of rapprochement with Turkey. Religious leaders of Armenian diaspora oppose the protocols and Sarksyan’s policy against Turkey while religious leaders that live in Armenia backs Turkey-Armenia normalization.
