Republican Senator John McCain stated that he supports the process of rapprochement between Turkey and Armenia. Giving an interview to Voice of America, American politician claimed that Turkey committed a genocide against Armenians and that is proved with documents.

Senator McCain said, “We are witnessing significant progress in the relations between Turkey and Armenia. For the first time, parties are making steps towards same direction. I believe that a genocide was committed against Armenians, and i think there are plenty of document about this issue. On the other hand, Turkish and Armenian people and states cannot forget the past. Especially Armenians cannot. Because of that, they consider that they should develop the relations with Turkey step by step. I find this opinion favourable.”

Senator McCain was the candidate of Republican Party for Presidency. McCain lost the elections against candidate of Democratic Party Barack Obama.
