A communique passed today by the GUAM (Georgia-Ukraine-Azerbaijan-Moldova) Parliamentary Assembly includes a paragraph on the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.

Elton Mammadov, head of Azerbaijan’s s permanent representation to the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly, said the Karabakh conflict is always on the agenda in terms of regional security. Azerbaijan seeks to have the conflict settled in line with the documents adopted by international structures.

The fourth plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly, held on 9—10 November in the Georgian capital Tbilisi, was effective and fruitful, Mammadov said. A delegation from the Baltic Assemby also attended.

“This is great progress, as for various reasons the fourth session had been due since the beginning of 2006,” Mammadov said.

Elton Mammadov led the Azerbaijani delegation, which included deputies Elman Mammadov, Mirkazim Kazimov and Ali Masimli.

Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova are members of the GUAM regional alliance, which aims to promote democracy and economic development.
