Armenia’s First President Levon Ter-Petrosyan said in a meeting with Armenian National Congress that Turkish Parliament will delay ratification of Turkey-Armenia protocols and will struggle to contribute rapid solution of Nagorno-Karabakh problem.

Stating that Turkey aims to urge a rapid solution to Nagorno-Karabakh problem with delaying ratification of protocols in the Parliament, Ter-Petrosyan said, “Armenian Parliament will determine its attitude looking to the process of ratification of protocols in Turkish Parliament and will ratify protocols after Turkish Parliament does. International community will see that the interruption in the process of normalization is due to Nagorno-Karabakh problem and will struggle for rapid resolution of the problem.”

Pointing the adverseness between Armenia and Armenian diaspora that is emerged due to Armenian government’s normalization policy with Turkey, Petrosyan said that Serzh Sarksyan will ask international mediators on Karabakh conflict for more time since he will avoid reactions of Armenian diaspora. “On the other hand, international community will reject that and press Sarksyan toward resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. It is very probable that international powers will advice Armenia to ratify protocols before Turkey does,” Petrosyan said.

Levon Ter-Petrosyan said that international community will focus on the process of resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict more than the process of normalization of Turkey-Armenia relations. “After all, the main obstacle for normalization of Turkey-Armenia relations is not the genocide issue but Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” said he.
