U.S. UNDERSTANDS TURKEY'S SENSITIVITY ON KARABAKH ISSUE

Azerbaijan is a strategically important country for the United States, U. S. Ambassador to Turkey James Jeffrey said in his interview with Turkey’s Heber Turk TV channel.

The ambassador noted the two countries have very good relationship and particularly close cooperation in energy sphere.

Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Jeffrey said his country understands the sensitivity of Azerbaijan and Turkey on the issue.

Washington makes great efforts towards settling the dispute, the diplomat underlined.

He pointed out a more experienced diplomat was appointed recently as the next U.S. co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group.

The ambassador also said presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia meet regularly.

“We want these meetings to continue”, he emphasized.
