Diran Lokmagozian, an Armenian journalist who was born in Turkey, states that Armenia wants to normalize its relations with Turkey, but the country cannot trust Turkey.

Giving an interview to Taraf newspaper, Armenian journalist said, “The situation in Armenia could be defined as ’shock’. The talks between Turkish and Armenian officials were not secret but people did not expect signing protocols. Other than that, these protocols were announced at the midnight just like the roadmap agreement. Because of the timing, people started to call the process as „midnight diplomacy“ instead of football diplomacy.”

Commenting on the concerns of Armenia on the process of normalization of relations with Turkey, Armenian journalist said, “Armenia has multi-dimensional concerns. Political, historical, economical and cultural concerns. Armenia is afraid of losing against Turkey which has 70 million population, a big economy and a strong political tradition. And these concerns are not vain at all. Turkey made a mistake by rejecting the proposal of Armenia during the presidency of Levon Ter-Petrosyan towards establishing good relations. IfTurkey had accepted to normalize relationsin that time, today Armenia would be like a province of Turkey. Nationalist policies and greed did not let that to happen. That still might happen today, and that is the source of the concerns of Armenia on the process of normalization. Armenia still does not trust Turkey. At one side a country that contiously gets armed, on the other side another country which chokes Armenia with an isolation. It is natural to have worries.”
