A resolution towards penalization of denial of so called Armenian genocide, which was presented to the Parliament of Armenia by Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun Party, is rejected by the Committe of Law of Armenian Ministry of Justice.

Dashnak Party had proposed a law draft towards penalization of denial of so called Armenian genocide. The resolution were proposing penalizingthe denial by 5 years of prison. The law draft wrote that denial of so called Armenian genocide which was committed by Ottoman Empire in “Western Armenia” is penalized by 5 years of prison.

DASHNAKS HAD TARGETED COMMITTEE OF HISTORIANS

Officials from ARF Dashnaktsutyun stated that the law draft was prepared against the joint committee of historians whichTurkish and Armenian governments had agreed to establish. Stressing that they planned to prevent establishment of such a committee through this resolution, ultra-nationalist Dashnak Party officials expressed their discontent on the rejection of the law draft.

Commenting on the resolution which will be brought to the committee again in the next February, David Haroutiounian said that approval of such resolution by Armenian parliament would damage the dialogue process between Turkey and Armenia. “Such resolution would force Turkey to adopt a resolution that penalizes calling 1915 events as genocide.”
