A statement on resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will be made after a meeting between Azerbaijani and Armenian foreign ministers Elmar Mamedyarov and Edward Nalbandian in Athens, the Azerbaijani FM told media in the Greek capital, according to Trend News. The statement was discussed between the foreign ministers of the two countries and the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmen at a working meeting yesterday. Mammadyarov said he met with international mediators again this morning.

The Azerbaijani foreign minister assessed positively yesterday’s talks with his Armenian counterpart and the Minsk Group co-chairs.

The statement will be made after the meeting in the format of the “3 +2,” Mammadyarov said. He added that the foreign ministers of Minsk Group co-chair countries will also participate in the meeting.

"Everything depends on today’s meeting,"Mamedyarov said. The Azerbaijani and Armenian foreign ministers will meet within participation in the OSCE Ministerial Council Meeting in Athens this afternoon.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group — Russia, France, and the U.S. — are currently holding the peace negotiations.
