“I do not think that return of seven Armenian-occupied regions is advantageous for Azerbaijan,” Azerbaijani political analyst Araz Alizade said.

“Everyone says that we are moving forward in the settlement of the Karabakh conflict. In this regard I remember an anecdote in which the lieutenant agrees that the crocodile is a flying weapon just because the major said it, although the lieutenant had never seen a flying crocodile,” the analyst said.

“This is the same case also in resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Everyone talks about progress in settlement of the conflict, but nobody see it. Besides, I do not know such cases in the world practice when territories captured by war were returned through peaceful negotiations.”

With regard to media reports which predicted Armenia's liberation of the seven occupied regions of Azerbaijan soon, the expert noted that “I do not think that development of events this way is advantageous to Azerbaijan.”

“First, no one is going to return the seven regions (I do not think Armenia would return Lachin region to Azerbaijan). Secondly, once Armenia withdraws from occupied lands, Azerbaijan will face a strong pressure from the international community to make significant concessions,” Alizade said.
