As Azerbaijan and Armenia intensified efforts towards resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh problem, discussions on the issue of ratification of Turkey-Armenia protocols continues. Deputy Chairman of External Affairs for Justice and Development Party, Suat Kinikoglu said ,"Ratification of protocols in Turkish Grand National Assembly is mostly related to the withdrawal of Armenian forces from the seven surrounding regions around Nagorno-Karabakh." On the other hand, Chief Advisor to Armenian President, Vigen Sargsyan said, “We consider January as a period. If no decision could be made till January than process may be interrupted because of political reasons.”
Deputy Chairman of External Affairs for Justice and Development Party Suat Kinikoglu and Chief Advisor to Armenian President Vigen Sargsyan spoke in a panel titled as “Turkey and Armenia: The road ahead” that is arranged by German Marshall Fund in Brussels.
According to the report of ABHaber, Suat Kinikoglu said that the process of normalization between Turkey and Armenia has the potential to change whole Caucasus from head to foot. Kinikoglu said that it is not logical to demandTurkey-Armenia ties to normalize but at the same time wish for Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to continue.
Commenting on the protocols towards normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia, Kinikoglu said,"Ratification of protocols in Turkish Grand National Assembly is mostly related to the withdrawal of Armenian forces from the seven surrounding regions around Nagorno-Karabakh."
When Vigen Sargsyan said that protocols should be ratified till February or the process may fail because of political reasons, Kinikoglu said, “It is wrong to fabricate schedules to the process. “Imposing unnatural schedules to the process damages it,” said he.
Replying the statements of Kinikoglu, Vigen Sargsyan said that Turkey should not establish connection between process of normalization and process of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resettlement. “Protocols do not include Nagorno-Karabakh issue. Besides Armenia is not ready to negotiate with two countries at once,” said Sargsyan.
“The time that process takes is very important. We consider January as a period. If no decision could be made till January than process may be interrupted because of political reasons. Of cource we do not expect normalization to take place suddenly. What we are mentioning is initialization of diplomatic relations and opening of borders. We are going to continue this dialugeas long as it isindependent of Nagorno-Karabakh problem or we willjust terminate it. We do not want to be used for other policies,” said Chief advisor to Armenian President.
