At present we want Azerbaijani army to continue its activity on the highest level.

According to the Partnership for Peace program and Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) signed between Azerbaijan and NATO, heads of some structures of the Defense Ministry must be civilians, Chairman of the Parliament’s Committee for Security and Defense Issues Ziyafat Asgarov said.

“Despite this, I do not think that this issue is urgent for Azerbaijan. Let’s suppose a serviceman is replaced by a civilian. At present we want Azerbaijani army to continue its activity on the highest level,” he said.

According to Asgarov, Azerbaijan highly appreciates the discussion of Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict during the meeting of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President Barack Obama.

“Turkish Prime Minister unambiguously said at the meeting that the solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict is connected with Turkey-Armenia rapprochement. Turkey-Armenia relations can not be normalized unless Nagorno Karabakh conflict is solved,” he said. < Prev   Next >
