It is reflected to the press for the first time that Turkey prepared a military operation plan for liberating Azerbaijan from the occupation of Moscow and Yerevan. According to the report of Azerbaijani ’Yeni Musavat’ newspaper, the conflict in Caucasus was about totrigger a war between Russia and Turkey.

Azerbaijani newspaper published articles on secret agreements between Baku and Ankara during the occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh, operation plans of Turkish Armed Forces on Nakhichevan and about the counter steps of Russia.

Azerbaijani oppositionist Yeni Musavat journal expressed the reason for bringing these information to the agenda as “to show that Turkey and Turkish Armed Forces are ready to make every kind of sacrifice, even fighting Russia for the sake of Azerbaijan.” Speaking to Azerbaijani newspaper, Azerbaijani Chief Prosecutor İhtiyar Sirin said that they applied to Turkey in accordance with President Ebulfeyz Elcibey’s directives when they learnt about the plans of occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Russian and Armenian forces.

Sirin said that he paid a visit to Ankara and met with Turkish parliamentarian Bedrettin Dalan and Prime Minister Suleyman Demirel. Sirin informed Turkish officials on the plans of occupation and stated that the plans were intending to prevent Baku to have close relations with Turkey and the West. According to Chief Prosecutor, occupation of Azerbaijan was also towards preventing realization of Baku-Ceyhan petroleum pipeline project.

Yeni Musavat wrote that Ankara settled troops on Turkey-Armenia border and prepared a military plan for assisting Baku in Nakhichevan. It is reported that Ankara also supported Azerbaijani army with arms and military experts and also planned establishment of a corridor that connects Nakhichevan to Azerbaijan.

According to Azerbaijani newspaper, Moscow delayed occupation when it learnt about Turkey’s plans and discarded former Azerbaijani President Elcibey by using Azerbaijani Colonel Suret Huseyinov. Yeni Musavat wrote that Ankara could not prevent occupation after that event because of the densed domestic agendafollowing death of Turkish President Turgut Ozal.

MEETING WITH DEMIREL

“I informed Turkish Prime Minister Suleyman Demirel on the plans of Russia about occupation of Azerbaijan. He seriously questioned me on the issue and then said, ‘Thank you for informing us at the right time. The rest of it is our responsibility. We will make necessary steps to take Azerbaijan out of this trouble.’ I can never forget these words. Afterwards Turkey made necessary steps as Prime Minister told me.”
