The European Union is ready to help ensure security on the Armenian-Turkish border if the two countries establish diplomatic relations.

The remarks were made by Lithuania’s ambassador to Armenia, Giedrius Apuokas, at a briefing in Yerevan on Friday on Sweden’s EU presidency. “If the protocols on the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations are implemented successfully, we are ready to help ensure security on the border, both in terms of technical and organizational support,” Apuokas said.

He said the EU had expressed its readiness to help at the sitting of the Armenia-EU cooperation council.

Since 1 July, the Lithuanian embassy in Armenia has been representing the Swiss presidency of the EU.
