An international conference dedicated to the problems of violation of human rights during the armed conflicts took place at the UN Palace of Nations in Geneva on December 10, the Human Rights Day on the initiative of the Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation (ICYFDC). Armenian permanent representation to UN Geneva Office tried to break the conference and therefore it was delayed for an hour. They said as if the conference’s format was contradictory to the UN rules. After the organizers’ explanation, the conference began its work at the Palace of Nations with the participation of reliable guests.

ICYFDC Executive Secretary Elshad Isgandarov said in his report that the Organization of the Islamic Conference recognized Khojaly massacre together with the tragedies in Rwanda and Srebrenitsa and emphasized the importance of cooperation between OIC and European institutions within the cross-culture dialogue on this issue. Justice for Khojaly campaign coordinator in Lithuania Eva Lukosevite presented multimedia prepared by the campaign activists about the tragedy which was bloodiest page of the Karabakh war. Armenian representatives tried to break the conference for several times. Armenian diplomat Gevorgyan denied the Armenian army’s participation in the massacre. In response, Isgandarov said Armenian officials are still continuing to mislead the international community.

“Armenia knows what role their leader played in this crime. Your incumbent president, who was one of the commanders of the Armenian armed forces in Nagorno Karabakh, told British journalist in that time that Armenian militants aimed to remove stereotype of Azerbaijanis about non-acceptability of the killing of peaceful civilians”, the Forum’s executive secretary quoted the book. Head of the Azerbaijani permanent mission to the UN Geneva Office Elchin Emirbeyov condemned the Armenian diplomats in attempt to politicize the human rights issue discussed at the UN. “Armenian diplomacy is frequently trying to prevent the initiatives of the non-governmental organizations and to break such events. The speech of Armenian representative at this conference is contradictory to the speeches of the participants from different countries, which stressed the necessity of restoring the rights of Kjojaly massacre victims. But they faced with the sound arguments of the Justice for Khojaly campaign organizers. This campaign, as a result of the Azerbaijan’s active foreign policy, causes concerns of the official Yerevan, which chose non-prospective position”.

The special report adopted in the end of the conference will be sent to the UN offices in New York and Geneva, as well as other international organizations.
