Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to United States is on the agenda of Armenia. According to Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian, U.S. President Barack Obama asked Erdogan for unconditional ratification of Turkey-Armenia protocols.

Nalbandian said, “The dialogue between two countries was started on the base of mutual understanding and sides abandoned preconditions. Setting preconditions would put process into a vicious circle.”

Nalbandian said that Turkey will be responsible of the results if she sets preconditions.

On the other hand, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Philip Gordon said that Turkey-Armenia protocols should be ratified in short term. “In our opinion, that will be towards the interests of both countries and it will bring stability to the region,” said he.

Resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh problemhas critical importance for Ankara. Turkey expects concrete progress in the resolution of the dispute between Azerbaijan and Armenia for making next step in the process of normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia.

Turkey and Armenia signed protocols within the mediation of Switzerlandin Zurich,October 10. Protocols towards establishment of diplomatic relations and development of bilateral ties between two countries should be adopted in the parliaments of both countries before they can take effect. < Prev   Next >
