A Turkish citizen of Armenian descent, Leo Suren Halepli has been appointed to a critical position for the first time of the history of the Turkish Republic.
Leo Suren Halepli has passed the final test to be appointed as an expert in the working group that will carry Turkey to the membership of European Union. He was among the 42 who have passed the written examination.
Halepli will be the first Armenian descent Turkish diplomat that will represent Turkey in EU corridors. Although there is a security investigation waiting for himthat will be hold by National Intelligence Organization, it is not expected for Halepli to face any other problem on his wayto start his new job. Diplomatic sources stated that Halepli got good marks from both tests and he was only successful candidate among three Armenian descent Turkish citizens.
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator, Egemen Bagis had stated earlier that government does not pay attention to the ethnicity, religion or political views of the candidates.
