Azerbaijan is concerned over the U.S. aid to the self-declared Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
“The U.S. also should deliver aid to the people displaced from occupied lands as it delivered to those living there,” Spokesman for Foreign Ministry Elkhan Polukhov sai.
He was commenting on the $8 million assistance offered by the U.S. Congress to Nagorno-Karabakh.
Polukhov said Azerbaijani side is expecting the U.S. to coordinate with Azerbaijan the steps taken in connection with such programs and inform Azerbaijan about it.
“We have always raised the issue on providing aid to the Azerbaijani community. Discrimination is inadmissible. Equal assistance should be delivered to the people living in the occupied territories and the people displaced from the occupied lands,” he said.
Asked whether the Congress aid can influence negotiations on settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Polukhov said: “The official position of the U.S. on the conflict is that it recognizes Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.”
AZERBAIJANI PARLIAMENT TO PROTEST U.S. CONGRESS
The Azerbaijani parliament will protest U.S. Congress decision to allocate financial aid to Nagorno-Karabakh, Chairman of the Security and Defense Committee of the Parliament Zahid Oruj said.
He said the financial aid allocated by the U.S. Congress to Nagorno-Karabakh wasn’t used for its intended purpose and increased uncontrollability of a military junta established there.
Oruj said on the other hand the U.S. allocations for Nagorno-Karabakh were contradictory to the mediator mission of this country.
“We will raise the issue at the parliament and demand stopping the U.S. support to Nagorno-Karabakh because these developments have negative impact on solution to the conflict.”
