A symposium held in Adana titled as “Armenian atrocity in Adana, 1909.” Thesymposium isarranged by Adana Fellow Cultural Foundations Association and directed by Professor Doctor Yusuf Halacoglu.
Former Chairman of Turkish Historical Society, Professor Doctor Yusuf Halacoglu said that nothing good came from the West to Turkey. “They used Armenians for their own interests,” said he.
Criticizing Turkey’s efforts on Westernization, Halacoglu said that history of Europe is full with wars and pain.
Stressing that nothing good came to Turkey from Western countries, Halacoglu said, “Remember Crusader wars, Gallipoli or World War I. The West did not bring us anything good. Now we are trying to be one of them. Being Westerner is equal to alienation and turning into an imperialist. Why are we trying to be like them? We have a glorious history. There is no place for imperialism in our history. If Ottomans were imperialists, today Turkish will be the strongest language in Balkans, Caucasus and in the Middle East. Ottomans were never unfair against other countries. These Western countries were the ones who used Armenians for their own interests.”
Stating that they created an archive with more than 100 thousand pages, Halacoglu said that Turkey’s bold statements and self-assurance on establishment of a committee of historians bases on the studies of Turkish Historical Society.
