Azerbaijan wanted Iran to take part in the resettlement process of the Nagorno-Karabakh problem. Paying an official visit to Tehran, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Memmedyarov met his Iranian counterpart Menuchehr Mutteki. Holding a joint press conference after their meeting, Foreign Ministers of Iran and Azerbaijan underscored engagement of Iran with Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resettlement process.
Mutteki said, “Iran is ready to do what it can for the resolution of the problem.” And afterwards Memmedyarov said, “Iran is a stable country in the region. For a dialogue to be established on Nagorno-Karabakh issue, stability is a key factor.”
Stating that Karabakh issue is the boldest clause on the agenda of his Iran visit, Memmedyarov said, “We discussed several issues. But Nagorno-Karabakh was the major one. Neighbouring and fellow country Iran has always been with Azerbaijan on Karabakh issue. We are certain that Iran will struggle for establishment of peace in the region.”
Welcoming the proposal of Azerbaijani FM, Mutteki stressed that Iran is volunteer to mediate between Azerbaijan and Armenia. “Iran is ready to do what it can for resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh problem in peaceful methods,” said he.
