Turkey will not ratify the Armenian-Turkish protocols without concessions from Armenia on Nagorno-Karabakh.
“Turkey is obviously binding these two issues together,” Stepan Demirchyan, leader of the opposition People’s Party, told a news conference on Wednesday.
“Moreover, the superpowers are interested in the resolution of the Karabakh conflict and normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations as soon as possible. Therefore, I think these countries will step up pressure on Armenia in 2010,” Demirchyan said.
He said that consolidation of the Armenian public would be the only way to resist the pressure.
Demirchyan did not think that President Serzh Sargsyan was about to withdraw Armenia’s signature from the protocols.
“I do not think that the Armenian authorities will suspend the initiated process,” Demirchyan said.
