
Decesion of erection of a so called “Assyrian genocide” monument in Sydney, Australia draws reactions.
Foreign Ministry of Turkey defined the decision of Fairfield Municipal Council in Sydney on erecting a monument about so called “Assyrian genocide” as “unfortunate.” Turkish Foreign Ministry stressed that the decision is inappropriate with the friendship and good relations between Turkey and Australia.
Accusing Turkey of committing a genocide against Assyrian people in Anatolia, erection of a so called Assyrian genocide monument is found unjust and inappropriate. Spokesman to Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the decision of Fairfield Municipal Council in Sydney, Australia is unfortunate.
Spokesman stressed the friendship between Turkey and Australia that backs to the war of Gallipoli, and said that the decision of municipality council is an unfortunate and inappropriate event. Spokesman said, “We condemn meaningless decision of Municipality Council. The fundamental duty of the local administration is to serve people in the region without discrimination. The decision is not within the jurisdiction of the local administration.”
Foreign Ministry Spokesman said that the decision harms the multi-cultural structure of Australia. “We hope local administration realizes the indignation that the decision creates among Turkish Community in Australia, which may help Municipality administration to review their decision.”
