It is reported that Akdamar Armenian Church in Akdamar Island in Lake Van will be soon open for holy liturgies and public worships.
Mayor of Van, Munir Karaoglu said, “Necessary documentation process has been committed with the Ministry of Culture. The Church will be open for public worships in September 12, 2010.”
Supporting Turkey-Armenia protocols that two countries signed to normalize bilateral relations on October 10, tourism entrepreneurs called government to open Akdamar Armenian Church for public worships. It is reported that the church in Akdamar Island in Lake Van will be next year open for holy liturgies and public worships. Mayor of Van stated that they have been exchanging correspondence with Ministry of Culture on the issue. Announcing that the church might be open for public worships in September 12, 2010, Mayor said, “We are going to invite Armenians to host and honor them like people of Van do.”
It is forecast that Armenia and Iran might contribute development of tourism in Van. Mayor stated that the number of tourists visiting Van may hit one million before 2023.
