No mediators are needed to normalize the Armenian-Turkish relations, said David Shahnazaryan, member of the Armenian National Congress.
He said the interference of the third countries to this process hampers this process as these countries mostly pursue their own ambitious interests. He considers that Armenia’s hopes for US pressure on Turkey in the issue of border opening and normalizing relations have not been justified. “Just the other way round: Ankara is putting pressure on the negotiation process on Karabakh while the United States will not benefit from losing Turkey and having another enemy in the region along with Iran,” Shahnazaryan considers.
He noted that the Karabakh conflict settlement and the Armenian-Turkish relations are interconnected and voiced hope that one issue cannot be settled without another. He also noted that the Armenian-Turkish relations can be normalized only on the basis of new protocols that would include regulations saying Turkey is not hostile towards Armenia.
