The political situation in Armenia is not too good. There is a serious confrontation between the opposition and the government.
The sides failed to come to a common denominator on the Armenian-Turkish protocols. The Constitutional Court of Armenia is to ratify these protocols and pass them to the parliament. The criticism of these protocols is expected, said expert Sabir Babayev.
According to him, the socioeconomic state in Armenia is frustrating and Armenians themselves talk about it. “About 800,000 people live in poverty in Armenia. According to the World Bank, the development (1.5%) is fixed along with the crisis in Armenia. This figure is unreal as it is impossible to define whether there is a development there or no, because the situation there is too negative,” he said.
The expert said Armenia owes too much to Russia, therefore, it depends on this country. “Mostly Russian entrepreneurs are working in Armenia. They say that the country may soon turn into Russia’s vassal. According to the Armenian Prime Minister, no devaluation is observed so far but their currency ‘went down.’ Prices on medicines have risen. Armenians say the situation in the country will improve in 2011. It is currently impossible to predict the further developments,” he said.
