Spokesman to Armenian Parliament, Samvel Nikoyan commented on the conditions for Armenia to recognize the independence of so called “NKR” (Nagorno-Karabakh). Reminding the statements of United States officials, “If Azerbaijan adopts an agressive attitude, US will recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh,” Armenian politician said that Armenia did not recognize the independence of so called “NKR” taking peace negotiations and the attitude of international community into consideration.
“But there is no alternativeother thanindependence of Nagorno-Karabakh for any Armenian. Recognition of ‘NKR’ would terminate Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group process and we would be driven out of negotiations. Because of that, we are not inclined to make such step. Azerbaijan continues its harmful politics. Azerbaijani administration misinforms its own public. While international community has adopted the idea of independence of ‘NKR,’ they are making threats of war. But Armenia will recognize independence of Nagorno-Karabakh in the case of a initiation of a military operation by Azerbaijan.”
