Possible change in Russia’s position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict may have negative consequences for the Armenian side.
The Nagorno-Karabakh problem will certainly be discussed during Turkish Prime Minister Recept Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Moscow, but nothing will change in the NKR peace process despite all bilateral meetings and discussions, Richard Giragosian, Director of the Armenian Center for National and International Studies (ACNIS) told.
He pointed out that the negotiation process may artificially be speeded up. The expert stressed that a possible change in Russia’s position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict may have negative consequences for the Armenian side.
Incited by Turkey, Russia may exert pressure on Armenia concerning Nagorno-Karabakh to contribute to the Armenia-Turkey reconciliation. Erdogan’s visit to Moscow proves that Ankara has turned towards Russia. In this context, he said that Premier Erdogan’s visit to Armenia, and the following visit to Armenia by RF Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, interrelated. But the most significant fact is that the visits coincide with the discussion of the Armenian-Turkish protocols by the Constitutional Court of Armenia, Giragosian said.
